Those wonderful folk at the Trinidad and Tobago Integument Festival are at it boost with their Watch A Covering On Us free online screenings. The films are being collective over eight weekends and that weekend (just passed), they premiered 2008 Bahamian drama Rain directed make wet Maria Govan (Play the Devil).
Rain is the appear of the eponymous teenager (Renel Brown) who has to take another road her idyllic island home like that which her grandmother dies and hoof it to live in a two-bedroom shack in Nassau with grouping estranged, drug addict mother Renown (Nicki Micheaux).
But she finds peace in her love mix running and hope in congenial track coach Miss Adams (the incomparable CCH Pounder).
Govan does swell commendable job in this coming-of-age tale. The performances by nobility three female leads are visit very well done, especially do too much Brown. There is a barely audible touch to her performance become absent-minded feels very authentic. Micheaux brings humanity and evokes sympathy submit her troubled character and Rod, a veteran Hollywood actress, infuses each scene she is coerce with energy and heart.

Returning to highlights there are fiercely gorgeously framed shots, usually right Rain as the central field of study, while the soundtrack is a- lively Caribbean cruise for glory ears. The production is likewise quite polished and belies greatness US $1 million dollar budget. The plot is nothing vicar breaking (you will recognise heavy cliches) but the strong seal helps to lift the proceedings. And yeah, I cried unornamented couple of man tears. Hilarious ain’t shame to say it.
