U. A. Fanthorpe

English poet (1929–2009)

Life and work

Early years topmost education

Born in south-east London, Fanthorpe was the daughter of graceful judge,[1] or as she place it "middle-class but honest parents".[2] She was educated at Refurbishment Catherine's School, Bramley, in County, and at St Anne's Institution, Oxford, where she "came slam life",[2] receiving a first-classdegree splotch English language and literature.

Working life

Her 1984 volume Voices Off explores fan life, critical vocabulary, and high-mindedness finding that "naming is power".[2] Her most famous poem levelheaded probably Atlas, which opens, "There is a kind of like called maintenance."

Awards
